Jay Swaminarayan! One of the prominent purposes for the manifestation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Swaminarayan, was to entertain his devotees. Through numerous ways Lord Swaminarayan entertained his devotees. One of the major ways devotees experience joy with the Lord is through Hindola Utsav.
The festival finds its origin in the streets of Vrindivan 5000 years ago where the Gopis expressed their utmost devotion towards Lord Krishna on a decorated swing. Since then, to experience the transcendental joy of swinging the Lord in a swing, the hindola utsav became the epicenter of devotion. Every year during the holy months of chaturmasa- Ashadha and Shravana the Hindu temples are filled with devotion. The arrival of Hindola Utsav during these months brings a new breeze of devotion and love for the Almighty. During the entire month the murti of Lord Swaminarayan is placed in a hindola and pulled to and fro with a swing.
Even the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Swaminarayan, was pleased by the devotion of devotees through hindola. Once in Vadtal, devotees rocked Lord Swaminarayan to and fro tying a hindola around mango trees. As a response to their devotion, Lord Swaminarayan manifested in twelve transcendental forms and entertained His devotees. Today, as a memory to the transcendental pastimes of Lord Swaminarayan the hindola festival is celebrated at all Swaminarayan Temples. Inspired by P.P. Sadguru Shree Gyanjivandasji Swami, the Swaminarayan Temples at Kundal and Karelibaug, Vadodara prepare meticulous hindola each year.
