NIMI EKADASHI Chaturmas starts Ashadh Sud Ekadashi

From this day onwards, till 4 months are known as chaturmas. As per the Lord’s commandment in the scripture Shikshapatri, special resolutions are to be taken for 4 months. So it is called as Nimi Ekadashi.
On this day, devotees of god take niyams from saints that would help them increase their love in god. These niyams are related to devotion like listening to discourses, Sing Keertans, do rosary or perform circumbulation etc. As per the mythological tales, god incarnated as bhagwan Vaaman and took everything from king Bali in just 2 foots and in the third foot ,king Bali lovingly offered  His body. Pleased with this sacrifice and sacred devotion, god surrendered Himself in the service of Bali. Goddess Laxmiji then accepted Bali as her brother and requested him to free god. But God decided to stay for 4 months with Bali and remaining 8 months with Laxmiji in Vaikunth. So every year on Ashadh sud Ekadashi, God Vishnu goes to sleep i.e. goes to stay with Bali in ‘Patal lok’. In order to please god, devotees take Niyams for this 4 months.
Spiritual significance of this is “the soul should leave this enchantment of illusion and convert full love towards god before death approaches.” So every year by observing some rules, niyams, one should constantly progress in the path towards salvation.
For this reason , every one from young till old should take niyams on this day and abide by till 4 months to please God.
